1. Short-Form Video
TikTok and Instagram Reels changed the way we look at short-form videos, and platforms like YouTube Shorts are also ‘riding that wave’. Bite-sized videos, often under a minute, capture people’s attention quickly and can reach a larger range of audiences. The key to success for this type of video is creativity, humour and ‘relatability’ – will the viewer feel a connection to the subject matter, and can you educate and entertain them?

Top tip: Follow TikTok and Instagram and monitor trending hashtags to see what’s currently being searched for by audiences. Also keep a regular check on what influencers and competitors are posting.
2. Live Streaming
The immediacy of live streaming has made it one of the fastest-growing video formats. Platforms such as Instagram, Tik Tok, YouTube and Facebook Live offer unique ways to connect with audiences ‘there and then’. Whether it’s a product launch, a behind-the-scenes glimpse or an interactive Q&A session, the sense of urgency and exclusivity definitely creates an engaged and committed audience.
Top tip: Keep an eye on live events hosted by industry leaders and see how they engage their audience. Watching live streams on platforms like TikTok and YouTube can give you some quick win ideas on how to keep viewers hooked.
3. Storytelling
Storytelling through video offers a unique opportunity to cut through the noise of marketing and connect with audiences on a human level, and that includes business-to-business marketing. By tapping into emotion – whether it’s empathy, trust, or aspiration with a story it can really help build lasting relationships. And in the business space, those relationships are invaluable as they help create referrals through word of mouth.
Top Tip: One of the most effective storytelling frameworks is the ‘Hero’s Journey’, where the customer is the hero of the story, and your product or service plays the role of the guide or tool that helps them succeed. Show their transformation from struggling with a problem to achieving success with your solution. Story also sounds more exciting than case study!
4. Interactive Videos
Interactive videos are transforming viewing into engagement. Clickable links and in-video shopping are becoming more popular, especially for e-commerce brands. The rise of ‘shoppable’ videos on platforms like Instagram and TikTok allows users to purchase products seamlessly while watching content, merging entertainment and commerce. This may seem less relevant to business-to-business marketing at the moment but online developments it seems almost anything is possible. Remember, be educational and entertaining.
Top tip: Find and follow case studies from brands succeeding with interactive content, attend webinars and look out for platforms launching new features. This will help you get ahead but using best practices.
5. Portrait Video
The rise of mobile viewing has made portrait videos an essential format, largely due to Instagram Stories and TikTok. Many brands are now prioritising vertical video as their go-to format for mobile-first audiences, ensuring their content fits seamlessly into users’ native social media experience.
Top Tip: Explore portrait video best practices by analysing how top creators and brands format their content. Additionally, why not film in both portrait and landscape formats? The same content can be used in differing ways on different platforms.
